Ultrasound is a painless and safe way of obtaining images of internal organs, blood vessels, and tissues of the body by using sound waves. There is no radiation involved in an ultrasound examination. Ultrasound is commonly used to produce detailed images of your gallbladder, liver, kidneys, uterus, bladder, heart, and many other organs. It is also used to evaluate blood vessels such as those in your neck to determine if there is any narrowing or blockage. Ultrasound also evaluates the structure and growth of the fetus.
