Osteoporosis Screening

A bone density scan is a osteoporosis screening used to diagnose osteoporosis by measuring the amount of minerals in your bones.  Osteoporosis is a disease in which your bones decrease in mass and become weak and brittle, increasing your risk for breaks and fractures.  A bone density scan is quick, painless, and noninvasive.

The National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) and the U.S. Preventive Service Task Force (USPSTF) recommend women begin osteoporosis screening at age 65 (earlier if postmenopausal and at increased risk) and repeat every 2 years.
